must read for all twenty somethings

Not only is this book entertaining and interesting, but it's an easy read. The days in the diary just breeze by. The only problem I had was trying to learn some of the British slang/vernacular, but that just added to the enjoyment. It's refreshing to read the thought process the main character goes through, and many of his antics that most anyone can relate to. Too many times I would find myself saying "Wow I know exactly how he feels," or "I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that." The author has a great writing style that eloquently describes everything from a first point of view that makes you feel right there with him. You feel all his agonizing days at work to his agonizing mornings after a night out. This would be a great read for anyone twenty and up as I don't believe too many teenagers would find it that interesting or relate to it. The story is something all men can relate to, while women would be able to learn a lot of how men think and act. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets adapted to a movie, it's that engaging.

Brilliant!

This book is for twenty-somethings like Bridget Jone's Diary was for the female crowd. Except this book probably has more mass appeal across genders and age. Refreshingly witty, this novel never fails to keep you laughing. As a twenty-something myself, I can't quite relate to the title character, Jack Lancaster, and his quarter-life crisis, but I certainly could be entertained by it. From his snarky comments to his Latin-quoting middle-aged boss, to his (oh-so-hidden) sappy romanticism, Jack has everything --and nothing-- figured out. Reading this during my daily commute into the city, I couldn't help but laugh at loud during some of the most ridiculous (and yet, strangely relatable) passages. Definitely a fun must-read.

Very enjoyable read

I really enjoyed this book - a funny, spot-on and enjoyable read that I didn't want to put down. Accessible and entertaining, in a light-hearted way. Enjoy!

Magnificent! One of the funniest books I've ever read

If you are a twentysomething professional - in the city or not - this book will mean a lot to you. There is so much to relate to - the drunken antics, the parties, the relationships...it's uncanny. All done in the most hilarious manner I've ever seen. If you like Carl Hiaasen, Christopher Moore or Kurt Vonnegut, you'll find Hollingshead better. But there's more than just comedy here. This book ranks as one of the most entertaining I've read in years.

Incredibly accurate and hilarious

I picked up this novel on a whim at the bookstore and finished it within 24 hours. As a 25 year old investment banker this book made me realize that there are people out there that feel the same way I do right now. Written in a journal format the book reads like non-fiction. It takes a witty, emotional, and hilarious approach to life in a city after college. Definitely recommended. i'm looking forward to Iain's next novel.
