Great book for trips

I travel quite a bit and I loved this book. I could stop and start without losing my place. Flop on the motel bed and open it up. It's great plane reading and people start conversations when they see something they recognize. I didn't know there were so many kids shows out there but everyone watched them it seems. The wrestling bit was pretty interesting because it didn't editorialize about fake vs real. It just told the story. I lost the CD immediately so I don't know if it was worth anything. The writer is funny and easy to read. He doesn't overdo the stories. It's a quick read and then he moves on. It reads like a web page without the eye strain. I wish he had covered more games shows but that could be an entire book itself. It has assumed an honored place on my "throne" now. It's not Dickens but it's fun to read.

The book I've been waiting for...

I have been a fan of the TVparty website for many years and have seen it grow from being a cult collection of insider articles and film clips on the web to being a source I constantly see being referred to on television. I have to admit, tho, nothing prepared me for the book! I am thrilled to finally have something to show my friends who aren't on the web, and it has kept me entertained since Christmas on the train (and I have read it through easily more than once!) I only watched the CD this week, tho, and I was screaming with laughter at the model with radioactive material on her face, and the obnoxious 60s children... it is my sister's birthday coming up and I can't wait to give it to her! You will not be disappointed in this book!!!

Not your father's TV Trivia Book

This is my kind of book. I prefer to read about the more obscure aspects of popular culture, so this book and CD is right up my alley. The History of the Laugh Track, The Murder of Alfalfa, the Super Hero shows of the 60s, Wrestling matches of the 80s, this is the most fun I've had reading in a long, long time. Everywhere you look there are little treats and surprises. The CD is a wonderful, lightweight way to sample the subjects the book covers. It really is a TV Party, and I didn't want it to end. I bought this along with the Saturday Night Live book, and I'm looking forward to reading them both again one day. Excellent - I recommmend TVparty highly for anyone who want to explore the arcane and unusual.

Party On!

I am always haunting the bookstores looking for new products about classic TV and this is the best I've seen in a long time. It really is like a party between two covers. I don't have a lot of friends that I can talk about my TV passions with, and this book is like hanging out with the coolest TV addicts around. I especially liked the coverage of local children's programming, I thought I was the only one who remembered Gigglesnort Hotel and Tom Terrific from Captain Kangaroo. The update on the Sitcom Houses was a trip down memory lane, and now I know the history of the TV Laugh Track. Being a Variety show fan, I've waited forever for someone to write anything about those great shows and I devoured that section. There are even mini-biographies of stars like Bette Davis and Redd Foxx - I can't wait for another TV Party book. Every time I picked up the book I discovered something new. I don't want the party to end!

Excellent Minutia...and I mean that in a good way.

Wow! Buy this book! It is an amazing collection of stories, facts, and folklore surrounding TV. Note to those who disliked the book: Reviews that say "I was disappointed in such-and-such a book because it should've addressed this, but instead only dealt with that" puzzle me. Ingram wrote a "fun book about TV,"--not an historical treatise on television. If you want a book to discuss additional topics or issues, write your own. Ingram did an excellent job covering the shows and performers he chose to highlight. No book could cover ALL of television--but this book sure covers a lot of it. Any book which shines a spotlight on the Smothers Brothers AND Dirty Dragon is alright by me.
