Tunnels -- Full of Action and Adventure

I'm a 6th grade teacher, and so I often read the books that I think my students will enjoy. I didn't know anything about this book before I picked it up, but boy, am I glad I read this one. A fresh idea and twists and turns at every corner will keep you turning the pages of this book. Even though the intended audience is the 11+ crowd, I found that I couldn't put it down. It was a bit slow to start, but once all the introductory features were out of the way, it picked up pace and really kept moving. It's got action, adventure, suspense, death....all the things that kids of this age group enjoy in a novel. The end of the book will have you clamorning for the next one, as the story is definitely NOT concluded at the end of this book. Kudos to Gordon and Williams. This is a piece of children's literature that will keep them coming back for more!
Better than Harry Potter!!!

I like "Tunnels" more than Harry Potter, because it is thrilling and full of unexpected situations, it has an original plot, underground. Even if you are 15, 25 years old or more (my father enjoyed the book, too), it's perfect for you! Ioana, 15 years old

Harry Potter beware! Here comes Will Burrows! The book was fabulous. Fast reading. Great story line. And for us older folks .. large, clear print. If you loved Hogwarts you'll want to know about The Colony.
Great Start to a New Series

I had read that the story was found by the same publisher who signed unknown JK rowling of Harry Potter fame and that this was going to be the next big book series. So I thought I would check it out. First off it is nothing like Harry Potter other than being about a young teenager. It is still a great book though and shouldnt even be compared to the Potter series. The story follows a 14 yr old boy in London named Will Burrows who doesnt really fit into his disfunctional family. His Dad runs a museum and loves to dig tunnels as a freelance archaelogist, his mom loves to sit and watch Tv, and his siter organizes and cleans everything. Will love to dig and goes with his dad on some digs and has even started his own tunnel. Will befriends another outcast at his school and talks him into helping him dig his tunnel. Then Wills dad disappears and they set off in search of him. This leads them to an underground colony run by a group called the Styx. Everyone there is taught to hate people from above ground. Wills life is thrown in disarray and many questions arise about who he really is and who his real friends and family are. A great book I love the whole concept and cant wait for the rest of the series.
