It's been awhile since the last Tubby novel.This time Tubby gets involved with a lady boxer,a murderer stalking his daughter, and Hurricane Katrina. Great story lines. Tony Dunbar just cracks me up in these novels.

The quintessential Katrina book

For all those who really want to know what it was truly like to be in New Orleans after Katrina, this is the quintessential novel that through fictional characters captures the emotion, struggle and agony of the situation like no other book yet published on the subject and this is coming from some one who was there and witnessed first hand. Not to be missed. Tony Dunbar is a diamond in the rough amoung writers. His style and story telling skills are among the best. Pass on Brinkley and pick up Dunbar. You won't be disappointed.

An interesting and realistic suspense story set in Post-Katrina New Orleans

I picked up this book out of shear coincidence because I recognized the author's name as someone that I work with. I was a bit hesitant about reading the book at first because I lived through and lost as a result of Katrina and was concerned about reliving old memories. I can truly say that I am glad that I read this. Tubby Dubonnet, the protagonist lawyer of Dunbar's series, has just arrived back in New Orleans right before Katrina hits the city. In the face of impending doom, Tubby decides to ride out the storm only to learn that shortly after the storm passes, the city begins to flood. At the same time, a psychopathic killer has escaped from a state prison and is on the loose in New Orleans. Eventually the paths of Tubby and the killer, who now calls himself 'Katrina' cross and the killer becomes infatuated with Tubby's daughter.The remainder of the story then deals with Tubby's drive to protect the ones that he loves from this madman. What I found most gripping about the book was the description of the utter devestation and life in the city after the storm. From Tubby's visit to the New Orleans Convention Center where the masses awaited salvation, to his living in a warehouse on the outskirts of the city, to his trips through the streets of the city in a boat, all brought to life a very realistic vision of what life was like. Anyone who wants just a sampling of what happened should read this book. I also found the character of Tubby to be interesting and well developed. I could easily picture this naive but intelligent and slightly oblivious man as he dealt with his problems. To make a comparison, I found him similar to Ignatius Reilly from A Confederacy of Dunces. The book was both enjoyable and theraputic and is a definite must read. I rarely give a book five stars but the vividness and accuracy earned it.
