Not what I expected

I thought this would be about the Chelsea Hotel from the viewpoint of a person growing up there. There is very little about the hotel itself. It's actually about a girl being raised by really odd parents. The author has a lot of trouble learning to interact with children her age, not because of where she lives (there are other kids available both in the hotel and surrounding neighborhood) but because of her parents' parenting and lifestyle. The book is about her relationship with her parents and her activities with the unusual friends she finally makes in school. She's a very talented writer and I would recommend this book for readers interested in child psychology but although it had its funny moments, I wouldn't consider it funny. Peculiar yes; funny no.
