No Second Novel Blues

Well, Kate Veitch has side-stepped the ogre-under-the-bridge who assails second time novelists. Not just side-stepped but thumbed her nose. This is an eminently readable novel for all the right reasons especially the dialogue. But also the spareness of the writing and the writer's patent "love" for her characters. None of this comes easily but Veitch has submerged the hard work and made it seem effortless. There are so many books to read and so little time but I suggest you find a quiet patch and try reading Trust in one delicious gulp.

Genre bending

I watched this novel being created, but still I couldn't stop reading it start to finish in its published form. I'm in awe of Kate's ability to write flowing, addictively engaging prose, while delivering subtle and complex insights into every one of her 10 significant characters. She crafts a gripping plot within which each of those characters grows and reveals their separate self in response to a tragedy and its aftermath. Fellers, it's not just for gals either.

A perfect sunday morning curl up and stay in bed book.

Veitch's ability to craft different character voices is compelling. Trust has a tight plot that doesn't meander; every word and scene contributes to the overall narrative. One feels overwhelmed with the insatiable need to turn the page!

Delightful

This novel is a deliciously easy read, with rounded characters who resonate, in the style of Joanna Trollope and Anne Tyler. Nathaniel Hawthorne said: "Easy reading is damn hard writing." "Trust" bears that out.

Deliciously intense and delightful!

A beautifully crafted novel....one to live in, side-by-side with exquisitely drawn characters I came to know and love, cheering them on right to the delicious, intense end.
