A Different Perspective

I was surprised by the words from the reader from Palo Alto, and wanted to give my own perspective (I am an older reader) about this book. I did not find Carly Martin to be a damsel in distress at all. The hero did save her physically once, in the end, but it seemed to me that she spent the book trying to save him emotionally, in my belief a harder job. I do agree that she has a way of seeing the world through rose-colored glasses, and has a tendency to trust others too much, which caused her to make some foolish mistakes. This did not bother me, because I have never liked "perfect" heroines, as I find them admirable but not believable. Carly Martin's flaws caused problems for her, but they also balanced and explained her resilience and her ability to provide the steady love that finally broke through the hero's defenses. Rather than insulting women, I thought that this book was a lovely tribute to the strength of family love and a woman's heart.

NEW AUTHOR - EXCELLENT

This is the first book that I have read by Melanie Craft and I was very impressed. Her use of animals in this book is very touching and the human characters are fascinating. There is humor, love, and mystery - all necessary ingredients in a good book. It is a fun read that I would highly recommend it. The fact that the royalties from this book go to the Mercer Clinic (provides free veterinary care to the companion animals of the homeless) is admirable. I look forward to more books from this author.

If you ARE a fan of the genre, check this book out!

Another FUN book from Craft! I loved watching Carly and Max fall in love before they even knew what was happening...I can relate because I was in denial about my first real love (and now husband!). I think that's what I like about Melanie Craft's books the most...they portray female characters that I can relate to--feminine, forgiving, sometimes naive--but also women with a strong sense of self and sexiness. If you are a romance fan, I promise you'll burn through this one and finish with a smile on your face! If you aren't a romance fan...hmmm...then why are you reading these types of books?

Loved it! Read it straight through

It only took me a couple of hours to get through this book. It was a quick read, but I totally loved the characters, and I finished the story with a great feeling. Max Giordano is a sexy hero (if you like the dark-and-brooding-with-a-heart-of-gold type, and I do...) Watching him loosen up and find his sense of humor is really fun. There is a light but engrossing suspense subplot, and some very funny humor scenes that made me want more. I look forward to this new author's next book!(I posted this review earlier, but it never showed up. Sorry if this is a duplicate!)

Two Thumbs Up!

I Never read romances. Ever. But I read this one, and I loved it. I was captivated from the first page and didn't put it down until 4:00 in the morning.First of all, I have to disagree with the reviewer from Publishers Weekly. Although the book may have tended toward the drama side of romance I cannot understand why the said the plot was bare-boned. From my standpoint--that of a clinical psychologist--it was an intricately woven (but easy to follow and uncontrived) plot about two people trying their best to love each other under very trying circumstances. The story had enough chemistry to involve me, and I sincerely wanted to know the characters. Moreover, Melanie writes with a light and delicate touch that is truly refreshing. And her humor does not get lost in this one either. Some of the scenes are absolutely hillarious...I usually don't read this kind of book, but I WILL be reading Melanie Craft's next one for sure. I guess I do read romance novels. Sometimes.
