I love these Dolch Readers. I am a former elementary teacher and mother of 5. When one of my children was stuggling to make the leap from baby books to chapter books, it was a Dolch Classic that helped her make the transition. Because the high frequency words are used and repeated, it is like using flash cards, however the stories are actually very well written and high interest. I wish these would be reprinted!
Great for learning sight words better

I got this book at a book sale and it is wonderful for my children who are struggling, not so much with reading but with spelling the sight words. Every story is filled with them. The introduction in my book mentions that the book is using 220 Dolch Basic Sight words. The Dolch 95 Commonest Nouns have also been used. Each book in the series averages about one new word per page. I'm on the lookout for more books in this series. By the way, there is one illustrated page per story. The stories are adorable and really hold the attention of the reader (especially if they are cat lovers). I find them interesting. They are like a 70s version of "Amazing Animal Stories" on tv. I recommend this for a struggling Second or third grader. A great read-aloud.
