True Inspiration

Raised in Russia, Alexander "Sasha" Bolotnikov aspired to be a renowned Communist nuclear physicist. His grandfather had been a colonel in the KGB, and he excitedly participated in the Communist Party's youth activities. Overtime, however, Sasha's dreams came crashing down around him. After attending a Communist youth summer camp, he began to question what happened to Lenin's socialistic utopia. In school, he learned that he was a Jew, and dealt with a teacher's anti-Semitic torment. Anti-Semitism followed him to the university where he was denied entrance to the physics program due to his passport saying Yevrei, or Jew. Determined to learn why so many people hated the Jewish people, Sasha turns his Jewish roots. He learns that his Uncle was a Rabbi, and decides to study in a Rabbinical seminary. At the same time, Sasha also studied at Kiev State. This is where he met with a group of Pentecostal Christians. He was surprised when they didn't consider him an enemy because he is Jewish, instead they embraced him and encouraged him to study the bible with them. Sasha has many questions about just what God wants from him and his life. Sasha's story is inspirational and very engaging. It was especially interesting to me because this book was lent to me by someone who knows him personally. However, he hits on major points that affect everyone's life: fitting in, doing what's right, and how to decide what to do with your life. Taking the events of his life as pieces of advice for my own life made reading his story even more meaningful.
