Trouble River by Betsy Byars is a fantastic book! The characters in this book are Dewey and Grandma. Dewey is a hard worker and is sneaky. In the beginning Grandma is hard to work with. She is also stubborn, but at the end she is calm and easy going. The main part of Trouble River is about a boy and his grandma trying to get to Hunter City. Trouble River is so good that you will not want to put it down. It will also keep you guessing. Throughout the book, Dewey and Grandma run into a lot of problems getting to Hunter City. In the beginning, a twelve-year old boy named Dewey has to take Grandma down Trouble River because of an Indian. In the middle, Dewey and Grandma have left the Dargan's. They are on their way to Hunter City. They had stopped in the woods for the night. Dewey's dog Charlie started barking at something. Dewey woke up. He didn't see anything at first then he saw it. I'll let you read the book to find out what Dewey and Charlie saw. Will they make it to Hunter City alive? I hope you like this book as much as I do. The reason why I like Trouble River is because when I read this book I never wanted to put it down. It also kept me guessing.

Trouble River was about a young boy and his grandma. Dewey was building a raft, and he named it the Rosie B. The Indians suddenly came to their cabin, and hurt their dog, Charlie, with a tomahawk. Charlie survived, and Dewey, Grandma, and Charlie got on the raft to escape the Indians. Grandma stayed in the rocking chair on the raft during the trip. They were going to their neighbors' house, but that house was burned down too. That was not all their trouble. They were caught in dangerous rapids and chased by wolves. Finally they make it to Hunter City. Dewey's mom and dad were there because they had a brand new baby. Everyone was amazed that a 12 year old boy built such a good raft, and made it down the river.I am a 10 year old old that loves this book because it has action, is interesting, and you never know what will happen next. So read the book and see how you like it. This book is part action, part history, and part funny.....in one whole book!
This was a good and exciting book.

I thing this is a good book for 4th graders because it is an exciting book and it sort of teaches you about responsibility. My favorite part is when Dewey and his grandma went to Dead Man's Creek on his raft. He thought he saw a dead man hanging. It was my favorite part because it sounded like it was scary and I like being scared.
