" Just over 1600 kilometres to the south of Hamburg and a little eastwards, a pair of F-104S Starfighters belonging to the Aeronautica Militaire Italiana, the Italian Air force, were high over the Adriatic and curving round to head back to Rimini for a landing. They had been engaging in a high altitude interception exercise with a pair of F-15 Eagles who were well on their way back to base, somewhat miffed. "So begins chapter 4, and there follows a fascinating description of just how the Starfighters trounced the Eagles. The book describes how German, American, Australian (ex F-111 navigator ), Italian and British pilots are formed into a new squadron flying the new improved ( fictional ?) Tornado ADV for NATO. A darn good read which manages to pack in a feast of aerial incidents.... engine fires, blown tires.... plenty of dogfighting and of course the famous Tornado terrain hugging flights.... highly recommended.
