It's Funny!

When I started reading, I almost put it down. It is dated - you can practically see the feathered hair as you read. But I'm glad I stuck with it. The scenes and the characters are absurd and surreal. How can you dislike something when it makes you laugh out loud? If I had a mother like that, I'd try to kill myself too.

One of the funniest books I ever read.

I found this book on my shelf while packing to move. I've saved it since the early 80s because at the time I first read it, it was one of THE funniest books I ever read and I remember laughing out loud reading it. I find it interesting to see that another reviewer finds it seriously outdated now and gave it a low rating for that...because there are lots of books that are "period" books. I mean, Dickens would be outdated now too, but he's still a great author. I'm not comparing this to Dickens, mind you, but while throwing stuff away for this move I also found a gob of those little necktie bows we wore in 1982 and spent a moment reminiscing...I may reread this for oldtimes sake -- those bows are even funnier now, I'd like to see how the book reads now too!

One of the funniest stories told

Jill is a wonderfully, alive crazy woman who has a bizarre family and work place to put up with. But she overcomes all obstacles placed in her path, including her own neuroses, to succeed professionally and personally. All of this in a great comedic novel. Laugh till you cry with this one.
