However, it wasn't until the discovery of the hepatitis C virus in 1989 and the subsequent introduction of a hepatitis C antibody test in 1990 that the puzzle pieces began to fit. Despite a decline in the count of individuals with the hepatitis C virus over the last 15 years, there's an uptick in the prevalence of hepatitis C-related liver ailments.
