Cancer isn't something that happens to twenty year olds. "Traveling Home: A Young Man's Story of Courage and Faith" is a mother and uncle's recollection of a man taken from the world far too soon. Peter Hill was diagnosed with a cancer at age twenty, passing away a year later. His acceptance of his fate at such a young age is the center of the story as they tell of his last months on this Earth and his embrace of God. "Traveling Home" is a must for any parent who is faced with a similar tragic situation.

Extraordinary death and life

I've known about this story from the time it happened, but reading it again brings it afresh to me again. Because of Peter's story many lives have been changed including mine and even my neighbor down the street who happened to be just down the hall from Peter in the hospital when this extraordinary thing happened. It changed his life for eternity! Just lately, I was reading the book and asked my 13 year old grandson to read the forward. After he read it, I asked him if it made him feel better or worse. He slowly said, "It made me think."

With the impending death of Charlotte Hill's son Peter, Rev. Don Waite (Peter's uncle)writes letters to Peter offering hope without wishful thinking, truth without whitewashing the darkness and love without embarrassment. And, when Peter dies, his faith and the faith and strength of this family offer us all a way of communicating about death when it is so difficult to express ourselves. Peter's story is a great resource for anyone who is faced with the eminent death of a family member or close friend. Traveling Home: The right words for a difficult time.
An inspiring book of faith, encouragement, and hope

The day my book arrived, I put the kids to bed early and started reading it. I stayed up well into the midnight hour nearly finishing the book in one sitting. It left such a strong impression and was so well written, I couldn't put it down. The authors have done such a nice job of making it an easy read for such a strong story. The Hills have raised 3 wonderful sons, and that certainly was reflected in how Pete dealt with everything, he is an awesome inspiration to all of us in his faith and his attitude. It really did make me reflect on my own life and how I'm living it, and what I want to make of it. I think this book will touch many, many lives and be an inspiration to many for years to come.
