A powerful call to intimate and passionate communion with God in a culture of lukewarm faith and apathetic spirituality. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is one of the most valuable books in my library. I've given copies to many people, and all of them have reported that it has changed their lives.
Being transformed into fire is dangerous

You do not want to read this book if you don't want to change. It challenges the masks we wear, the roles we play, and the values of our culture, both Christian and secular. The author's assault on so many fronts is based on her conviction that unless we re-examine ourselves and our culture - including our church culture - at the most fundamental levels, we will continue to live anemic spiritual lives largely separated from God's love. That separation, according to the author, is as a result of our choices, not His. If, on the other hand, you have been left frustrated, puzzled, cynical, or guilty as to why the life of a Christian as portrayed in the New Testament is not a reality for you, if you long for a more vibrant and intimate relationship with God, then by all means read this book. It will provide direction for your deepest longings.
This is the book you've been looking for...

If you are looking for something more in your relationship with the Lord, this book has it. (You must be, or you wouldn't be shopping for Christian books.) It's so wonderful to find a little gem like this which is easy to read but still challenging. Unlike many other contemporary Christian books, which all seem to be saying about the same thing, this one is full of concepts which are new and includes applications. It really held my attention, and even more unusual, I am actually reading it again. If you want your relationship with God to be only about what other people think of the things you say, or things you do, what you look like, or where you go to church, you don't need to read this book. It is for people who want to experience what they say they believe, and who want to know God in a more personal and intimate way. Be forewarned: after you read Transformed into Fire you will never be the same.

This is a book to be read thoughtfully, not something to skim. In nine chapters the author travels from the call to communion to learning to see. Written in a friendly conversational style, the book takes the reader by the hand and walks through the stages of spiritual growth. The author is an Assistant Professor of English with a degree in creative writing. She has published poetry and contributed to literary anthologies, journals, and popular magazines.
Truth you didn't know you needed to hear!

This book is powerful stuff! Thoughtfully and eloquently written, Ms. Hougen builds on the work of Thomas Merton, Brennan Manning, and others to reveal her understanding of the true self in relation to God and others. The book illuminates an entirely counter-cultural and revolutionary way of approaching life and faith that I'm really going to have to sit in for a while to really get! I very much appreciated the fact that she not only goes deeply into the theory, she also provides very precise and practical ways of integrating these realities into life. I highly recommend this to anyone seeking to move beyond a merely intellectual understanding of life and faith -- anyone looking for more than pat answers!
