Just what I needed

With all the confusion concerning raising our children, so much advice, a parent could really mess things up. Chuck Sturgeon uses scriptures to back up his teachings. You could argue with the Bible but I suggest otherwise. My son is 3 and how I wish I could have known about this book and others such as "Protecting your children in dangerous times" by Kelly Klutz and "Angels" by Charles Capps. I would have had the necessary tools in which to have peace in my home. They say a child does not come with a handbook or directions, well I now disagree. We just needed someone who took the time to find out that the Bible is just what God ordered for us and our children. Just speaking the Word to my child, playing music that was created from the Holy Spirit and the discipline that is so much required, my child has shown such improvement. As soon as I slack off of this practice, I can see my son change immediately. Spanking, if done the right way, makes such a difference and once the child realizes that there are consequences to their actions, there are less and less spankings. I encourage that the parents read this book, pray on it and listen to God show you how to exercise his word in your life and your children's lives. Spanking without the Word will be useless and the Word without discipline will be the same results. I should know. I tried it. Also, a consistant schedule that a child can count on helps tremendously. May the reader and their family be Blessed and listen to their inner voice (Holy Spirit) on what is right for their children.

Great book

I have to respectfully disagree with the last writer. This book challenges the parent to be modeling a Christian life before expecting your children to do so and, my favorite, tying heart strings with your children. Filling them first with unconditional love and establishing clear boundaries. I gave it four stars b/c the first article is on spanking, but when you read the whole book, you see that is only in context of a joyful home. In fact, they even say don't using spanking if you're not going to do the other parts. They advocate positive parenting and not dumping your emotional issues on your children. You may not like everything, but you will certainly take away some great practical advice. I also enjoyed the follow up articles in the No Greater Joy Volumes.

Christian Parent Must

Now that my husband and I are preparing to start our family, I picked up this highly recommended book. It is a great outline with very practical and timely principles and suggestions. For those looking for a Biblical and well-rounded approach to discipline this was a great help. I also appreciated the balanced approach to discipline that shapes Godly chracter in a child while still appreciating their unique calling and gifts.

A must read for Christian Parents

My husband and I have struggled for years with the disipline of our 5 year old son. He is a good boy, just extremely energetic. We were told this was a great book to read. We read it together in less than a week. It has helped us so dramatically with our child rearing tactics! Our son now not only listens to what we are telling him to do, but he typically does it the 1st time we ask. This book outlines the roles of the Father and Mother in the parenting relationship. It also tells you in great detail how to handle your children in a Christ-like manner. We both highly recommend it!
