In 1967, a young couple left their home and families in Dorset England and then travelled halfway round the world on a ship with their two small children, hoping to seek a better life in Western Australia. Portrayed in brochures as the land of opportunity, Western Australia certainly was for academics and trades people back then, but it was far from that, if you came with no relevant skills. For one migrant family, life was tough on low wages. Only through sheer hard work and going without any luxuries for a number of years, did they eventually overcome their financial adversities. They were then able to enjoy a lifestyle equal to, or better than those who started out with much more.
