When Kirk Van Horn had fled the Tomahawk Ranch, and his abusive father, Guy, he had vowed to never return. But, after he received a letter from his dying mother begging him to return, he came back. His father is still the bully he ever was, and with a drought strangling them out, he refuses the small ranchers of the Salt Creek Valley any access to the unused grassland that he controls. But, now that a massive stroke has laid old Guy low, the Salt Creek ranchers think that this is a good time to dismantle the mighty Tomahawk Ranch. It's up to Kirk to protect the Tomahawk Ranch and his family, and also the Salt Creek ranchers that he has tried to befriend. This wonderful book was first published in 1958, by Wayne D. Overholser (1906-96), under the pseudonym of Lee Leighton. Wayne was a great Western author, who's book Law Man won the very first Western Writers of America Spur Award For Best Western Novel of the Year in 1953. This book is great; it is exciting and wonderfully gripping, with all of the action and tough-guy adventure that you would expect. I highly recommend this book!
