The first developer's reference for TOAD (Tools for Oracle Application Development), written and reviewed by members of the TOAD team. This description may be from another edition of this product.
My company recently bought my new license to TOAD 10, and with that cost - I wanted to learn how to use this tool as best I can to increase my productivity using TOAD 10. The book arrived today - and I have been going back and forth between the software and the book - and I am learning things about what it can do - that do not stand out until you have them pointed out. So for me this is a worthwhile purchase. This is the 2nd Edition of the book (version 9.7 of TOAD), and it went to press in Sept 2009 as version 10 was coming out. So far I am not dissapointed and I expect to be more productive as a result. (TOAD is said to be the most widely used Oracle IDE there is on the windows platform). The book does try to speak to a large audience, from Novice to Advanced. So there may be parts that may seem elementary- I understand the need to have it in the book(it will have a large audience of users). The version of TOAD that I am using is the Developer edition, so some of the discussions that are for the DBA edition are interesting, however they are not available to use. The book is clearly written, with some attempts at humour that seem like a joke from a presentation style (It keeps it from being too dry a style). If you have not really explored TOAD and its abilities before, this will be a useful book and worth the purchase price. I think even the long time users might still get an A-ha moment.
Everything developers need to use TOAD in both administrative and development tasks

A key choice is the second updated edition of Bert Scalzo and Dan Hotka's TOAD HANDBOOK, a survey of the latest version of TOAD, a third-party Oracle utility. Step-by-step recipes, screen snapshots, and basic exercises provide everything developers need to use TOAD in both administrative and development tasks. An excellent pick for any software developer's library.
Great for TOAD users who want to get more out of the tool

I've been using TOAD for a few years, but like most users, tended to only use a few of the controls. I knew the product could do more, and could probably be more useful, but I never had the time to explore. This book suits my purposes well. From just reading the first part of the book I was able to customise and de-clutter screens which was of immediate benefit. The book is well-suited to jumping in to relevant sections and skipping others of less interest. Whenever I have a few minutes to spare, I can usually browse through the book and find some feature that I wasn't aware of.
A perfect companion to the O'Reilly Reference Book

While I enjoy the brevity and straightforwardness of the Toad Pocket Reference for Oracle, this book really gave a lot of insight as to WHY and HOW I could use Toad to accomplish my daily tasks with Toad. It was also great to see that the things I'm doing as an Oracle professional are in line with what Bert and Dan are advocating.
First class Documentation

For most TOAD users, a decent general purpose reference for understanding TOAD's plethora of features - especially the DBA module's more advanced screens, wizards and utilities.
