To Utah With The Dragoons is a collection of articles written by a soldier who was part of the army dispatched to Utah to quell the "Mormon Uprising." The articles were published in the Philadelphia Harold under the pin name "Utah." The first hand account is something of an 1800's version of embedded reporting. The book is an enjoyable, easy read, and you should be able to finish it in a weekend. The soldier, who apparently has some background in journalism does a good job of giving the whole picture to many of the events, and describing in detail the flora, fauna, and his impressions of the geography, and people he encountered along his way.
