There's an drawback... but man, was this a good novel overall!

I enjoyed To Tame a Cowboy for many reasons, one being that it was a light and easy read. Moreover, romantic dialogue had me sighing with happiness, action scenes had my blood pumping, and the scenery of horses and mountains was beautiful and vivid! Scenes in general were so vivid that I could almost pull out a pencil and piece of paper to draw what I saw. I also felt that the main female protagonist, Savannah, was a step up from most female protagonists we have today. Like I see in lots of other Christian romances, they’re sweet and thoughtful and with an extra-special hobby but mostly just… there. Whatever hobbies or interests they have, however smart they are, there isn’t much to them. Savannah, however, was far more relatable, down-to-earth, memorable, messed-up-but-kind, and just plain REAL, ALIVE, and HUMAN. Despite the book deserving a solid 4-out-of-5 stars, there was one issue that bugged me and only grew bigger: Attraction. Stroking hair or wanting to kiss is sweet and romantic--not to mention the dialogue the main characters have!--but what happens in this novel goes further–way further. If a movie, it would be rated PG-13. Perhaps it is just me–you may end up enjoying the scenes–but I was quite uncomfortable, so much that I either skipped over these parts or would temporarily stop reading the book. There were so many good parts of this novel, but one of my favorites was the last chapter–practically a sneak peak for the upcoming book Falling for the Cowgirl. I cannot wait to see what happens next in Colorado Cowboys!

Western Romance in Colorado

A hurting veteran and a runaway bride find a change of perspective in the Colorado Mountains. Brody McQuaid returns from The War Between the States a changed man, haunted by what he had seen he struggles to adjust to civilian life, causing his family to worry. I loved how supportive Brody's family is, especially Flynn. Flora is just the cutest little thing, her relationship with Brody is just so stinking adorable. Brody has a big heart, but he has trouble pushing past the nightmares. Savannah has a gift for healing and a heart for the hurting. Despite her father's wishes she just cannot resign herself to marrying the man that her father has chosen for her. I loved how she fits right in with the McQuaid clan from the get go, her love for the animals, and her heart for others. Overall, this was an enjoyable historical romance, set against the beautiful but treacherous Colorado mountains. I appreciated the strong themes of family being there through thick and thin. I liked getting to revisit the McQuaid family, seeing Linea and Flynn happily married, and I am looking forward to what is in store for Ivy and Dylan, especially Ivy as she has always has a way of putting things outright. Great for fans of Western romantic reads and fans of Ms. Hedlund's previous books! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

To Tame a Cowboy

To Tame a Cowboy is the third installment from Jody Hedlund’s Colorado Cowboys series. I have always adored her historical novels and this one is no different. It was great to go back in time in Colorado. I loved getting to know Savannah and Brody and I was quickly caught up in their story. I enjoyed the adventure, mystery, romance and the element of faith within the pages. It was fun to learn a little bit about early veterinarian practices, also. There was nothing I did not love about this tale. It was fabulous. To Tame a Cowboy will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean Historical Romantic Fiction. I can not wait to get my hands on the next book from the Colorado Cowboys series, Falling for the Cowgirl, to see what happens next. I received a paperback copy of To Tame a Cowboy from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
