a new twist on an old theme

Rarely do we see a children's story of this quality. This book sings. From it's feisty little heroine, its charmingly illustrated characters, and its clever turn-around of an old theme,the book dances through the story of Isola, the little princess who wants to escape her royal destiny and go out into the world. The message is an empowering one for girls and a sly poke at the traditional handsome young man solution to girls' problems. The book is a great read aloud for young children. It is also a wonderful vehicle for older students to examine the writer's craft.
