A Modern Love Story

"To England with Love" is a magical book. Karen was doing what so many of us do when we are no longer youngsters - going to a job - having a life - and missing... something. And not really knowing what the missing piece was. One night she turned on the TV and saw Anthony Kearns and her life was changed forever. Anthony is one of the Irish Tenors and has a classically trained voice. He is an extraordinary tenor and not hard to look at either. This chance encounter rekindled Karen's love of music and led her on a merry chase from New York to Ireland. She made lots of friends on the internet and at concerts. And then she met Mick. At first he was her whistle teacher and then a voice on the phone and then a beloved friend and lover. When Mick and Karen decided to live together in England, Karen ran into some strange problems. Despite the fact that they spoke English she couldn't understand anyone. Recognizing and fixing food was equally frustrating. I laughed till I cried at Karen's first visit to the supermarket. I'm looking forward to reading the next steps in her journey. I'm sure they will be as fascinating as this one.

Excellent read

I enjoyed this book very much. It is beautifully written and holds your interest from start to finish. At the core is the tender story of how a Montana school teacher finds the love of her life in a Northern town in England. They meet on the internet through a shared love of music. The story of how their relationship developed from these cyber beginnings and crossed the cultural and geographical divide is gripping. This book is more than a love story it is also a travel book describing and contrasting so well the wide open spaces of Montana, the hills and dales of Lancashire and in passing the wilds of the west of Ireland. I was amused and fascinated too as the author recounted her struggle to deal with the day to day difference in English and American life. A good read. I would recommend itTo England with Love
