I beat cancer and learned a lot about life along the way. This story will make you laugh and inspire you when you need it most.
You will find helpful tips for healing after surgery, clothing ideas, and possibly a new outlook.
I went through breast cancer at 37 years old. Shortly after diagnosis, I had a bilateral mastectomy and breast reconstruction with implants that lasted 16 years. In 2021, at age 54, I had the implants removed and not replaced. I chose a procedure called Aesthetic Flat Closure (also known as Going Flat). I discovered after surgery that my breastbone was protruding, and I had to learn to live with unexpected changes. I had to figure out how to deal with the physical and mental changes of my body once again. Ultimately, I found a way to have breasts without future surgeries.
I survived an illness that reshaped my body and life.
