Awsome experience

For all the people that have enjoyed the fiction of Sir Arthur C. Clarke from other books and all of us that enjoy the smart action adventures, this book (and its sequel) is a very good example of novel, sci-fi and adventure Stephen Baxter has a long trajectory (I reccomend the trilogy of Time, Space and Evolution) on time traveling and along with the experience and creativity that Sir Arthur has shown and captivated audiences for a long time, the collaboration has paid off with a very intelligent novel This one (and for me was both) will keep you wanting to know what comes next and not allowing you to sleep for many nights untill you finish it, and after that, your friends also know that you're reading this book, because you will want to share the concepts and the plots with someone else Definetly something we also would want to see at some other point, another collaboration of this calibre; you will put these books along with the other good stuff like all the trekkies and space oddities and the foundations

Great extension of his odyssey theme

A very interesting refinement of Clarke's odyssey theme. I guess he has decided to graduate from the monolith to a sphere. While there is a lot of basis on the space odyssey idea the plot is still unique and keeps one occupied.

Time's Eye Entrances

A gripping, eloquent work of speculative fiction. The books is more fantasy than Science Fiction in it's jigsaw reconfiguration of time and space on Earth, but as Clarke wrote of long ago, "Any sufficiently developed technology is indistinguishable from magic." Arthur C. Clarke brings his deep philosophy to the forefront, and Baxter's writing is smooth, vibrant and rich as a patchwork quilt cut from velvet. The prose is aggressive and the characters sharply drawn. The opening scene with the walking apes is a nod to 2001--A Space Odyssey, and firmly places us in the heads of the pre-homo sapiens' minds and thought-language. The shifts to India under British Imperialism, the Mongol dominion of Ghengis Khan, ancient Babylon and other time-spaces of human history are seamless, and a tremendous accomplishment with vivid, carefully researched reconstruction of historical place. The novel with all its science, history and philosophy, never bogs down--it pulses with vitality and tension that pulls the reader kicking and screaming (not to mention filled with awe)toward the mystery of the alien Firstborn. (Five Stars) Congratulations to Mr. Baxter and Mr. Clarke on another brilliant novel. I'm eagerly looking forward to reading the recently published hardcover follow-up, "Sunstorm."

Awesome Read, Clarke At His Best!

I was much too busy this week to even read a Clarke book, but I glanced at it a few days ago and couldn't put it down until devoured! Not since CHILDHOOD's END or SONGS OF DISTANT EARTH has Clarke written such an engaging book. His mastery of diverse elements -- the geo-political situations of 2037 and 1885 and the intimate details of ancient civilizations -- make for a stirring melange of historical personalities, military action, Earth science, and exploration of our past...and future? I can't wait for the next volume in this series!
