Time to Say Goodbye

A spare disciplined prose that no one will be able to read without thinking of Hemingway. But MacEnulty has made the style her own. "Observer" MacEnulty writes with sympathy, wisdom and an unexpected blessing humour. "Guardian" The dirty realistic landscape sometimes steps aside for bittersweet coming-of-age flashbacks, but mostly we re in swampy hell. Harry Crews would love it. "Uncut""Time to Say Goodbye" tells the story of a suburban wife and mother...

A meaningful, entertaining read!

It's so very nice to have a good detective story based somewhere else than New York or Washington. The South has its share of sordid characters and lifestyles. MacEnulty has grabbed onto a noir genre solid character that will make a good stories for a long while. There's more to this novel than one time through provides. Her writing has substance that puts her writing in a class by itself.

One of the very best books I've ever read

This book is thrilling and moving. The characters are very likable, and the plot hangs together with a very satisfying ending. I sincerely hope Dr. MacEnulty continues in the crime fiction genre, as she excells at it. Dee Lambert

Something Special

I read a lot of books, and average of two a week. Many of those are mysteries. This book is something special. You don't just know the dective or the victim, you know all the charachters and their motivations. I especially love the relationship between the main chachter and her dauthter and her son. I would love the read something else by this author where she explore the mother child relationship further. This book is exciting and fast paced and the conclusion will leave your breathless.

A thrilling ride

"Time to Say Goodbye" is a fast-paced, crime noir that keeps you guessing from beginning to end. Patsy Palmer, a prison escapee formerly known as Vera Lee, starts her life anew with a new identity and is looking over her shoulder as people from her past begin to die or disappear. She is nervous with good reason. She has made a good life for herself and her hidden past threatens to obliterate everything she holds dear. Rodney Ellis, a compassionate detective with good instincts, suspects that a maid's death and a woman's disappearance may be linked to Vera Lee, a memorable young woman he arrested many years ago. We travel with Rodney as he solves the mystery of Vera Lee and Patsy Palmer. We fear with Patsy as she relives a past that she would rather forget. It is a ride that is thrilling and unpredictable and well-worth taking.

I stayed up all night

Time to Say Goodbye is an outstanding gumshoe crime drama. Rodney Ellis would be comfortable in the company of Phillip Marlowe, Spenser, or Travis McGee. There is nothing better than a book that keeps you up all night. This is one of those books that makes your heart race as you get closer and closer to the end. I hope Ms. McEnulty is working on the next adventure for Rodney Ellis. A fantastic read!
