Entertaining Time Trave Romance ~ A Keeper!

Here is a brief summary of the story from the back of the book: "Fed up with the boring wimps she dated, Jody Farnell put all her energy into restoring a decaying antebellum mansion. And among the ruins of Whitefriars, the young architect discovered the diary of a man from another century who fascinated her like no other and a voodoo doll whose ancient spell whisked her back one hundred years to his time. A true gentleman of the old South, Micah Deveroux also yearned for someone he could love above all others, and he thought he had found that woman until Jody mysteriously appeared in his own bedroom. Enchanted by Jody, betrothed to another, Micah feared he had lost his one chance at happiness unless the same black magic that had brought Jody into his life could work its charm again." My Review: Jody Farnell is an architect who has traveled to Joaquin, Louisiana not only for a change of scenery and a way of revitalizing her life but also to find a plantation home to restore. She has restored and sold several older, historic homes since college, and has found the process not only enjoyable but profitable. While Whitefriars, the mansion she has discovered in Joaquin, is in deplorable condition, Jody knows that the home is sound and has great potential. She buys the property and enthusiastically begins to restore the home to its past glory. To save on expenses, Jody decided to live in the home during its renovation. While sorting through antique books and ledgers in the library one day, she found the journal kept by a previous owner, Micah Deveroux. After reading through the pages of Micah's journal, Jody felt an affinity for this man and his yearning to find a woman he could truly love to share his life. Here was a man conflicted by the his own desires and his obligations to Whitefriars. Knowing that he must marry, he finally agreed to become engaged to the daughter of a neighboring plantation. While his heart was not in this proposed marriage, he was determined to honor his pledge. It is this scenario that Jody stumbles into when she is accidentally transported back over one-hundred and twenty years into Micahs' home and life through an unusual voodoo doll that she discovers on the property. I love time travel romance novels, especially those written with a theme involving the antebellum South or the period during or just past the Civil War. This book held my attention throughout. The characters were very well drawn and the story line held a bit of mystery including a vengeful voodoo priestess that kept me involved until the end. One of the main aspects of time travel novels that I enjoy is watching the person from one period or century adjust to the living circumstances of another. I also look to see if the author can successfully weave the confusion and surprise of those of the other time period seamlessly into the story. This the author does this very well. I only wish that publishers printed more of these fascinating and delightful time
