Book Overview

Aunt Blythe's house gives Drew the creeps - it's full of dark rooms, creaky noises, and the sound of a woman sobbing somewhere in the shadows. Then, in the middle of the night, Drew awakens to find a boy standing in his room...a boy who is Drew's exact double, except he looks as if he's come from the grave. He wants Drew to help him by traveling to a place where he will meet the spirits of long-dead ancestors...a place from which Drew may never...

The cover is all wrong, the story is fantastic. Buy it. Read it. Trust me.

This was one of my 10 favorite books when I was a young lad. One of my best English teachers read us this book in class, along with My Side of the Mountain, the Magic Bicycle, Summer of the Monkeys, and many others. All fantastic stories for kids and young adults. I gave a copy of TFA to my 6-yr old son for his birthday last year and we’ve nearly finished it together (bedtime storybook). It has all of the constituent pieces of a great American novel, right down to the setting in rural Missouri in two separate timelines. Read it for your own pleasure. Read it to your kids and enjoy the time with them - we never have as much as we think! ❤️

time travel meets ghost story

a totally different direction from what you would usually expect from Mary Downing Hahn, but fantastic nonetheless. When family, time travel, and ghost stories collide, you get this amazing, chilling, story of love and family, as well as an awesome story of time travel.

Not really a ghost story - but very good!

This book surprised me because I thought it was going to be a spooky ghost story - but it wasn't. That doesn't mean it wasn't good, because it was, I just wouldn't classify it as a ghost story, in case that is what you are expecting. Drew is spending his summer with his great- aunt Blythe in her and her father's deep-rooted house. After the two are looking through the attic, they inadvertently find a stash of marbles with a warning not to steal them. Aunt Blythe takes them with the intent to sell them for repairs on the old house, but Drew has an inkling that they shouldn't be moved. It appears as though Drew was right, that night his great-great-uncle Andrew comes into Drew's room. Andrew looks just like Drew and they are at the same age. As they talk, they realize that this is the night before Andrew died of diphtheria, so he wants to switch places so he can be healed in the present time, Drew's time. Drew finally consents to it, but things get tough when Andrew doesn't want to switch back. The story is mainly about the relationships Drew forms with his "new" family and the different times and the growth of Drew. Drew is shy and quiet, yet, Andrew is unruly and mischievous. Drew must learn to be more resilient to make it in Andrew's shoes. He must also learn how to play marbles so he can win the bet that he and Andrew made to allow him to go back to his own time. While this book wasn't scary or spooky, it was suspenseful to wonder if and how Drew would make it back to his real family. And it has a wonderfully gratifying ending. I highly recommend it to all.

Just try to imagine Aunt Blythe's creepy house!

Time For Andrew is written by Mary Downing Hahn. It is published by Avon books. Time For Andrew was published in 1994. Do you like mysterious books? Drew is visiting Aunt Blythe for two months. He hears cries and starts to see things. Then he finds Andrew, who has diptheria. Andrew wants to switch with Drew for a cure. Drew agrees. When Drew goes to bed one night during a storm he sees the attic door open. That's when he meets Andrew. " You can't be alive," Drew whispered, "you can't - it's impossible." " Do I look as bad as that?" Andrew asked. "Dr. Fulton told Mama I was like to die before morning, but he saved me from blood poisoning last year and the measles the year before that, and cough and whooping cough as well. Hannah lived through diptheria. She says I will too." Others will like this book because it is very interesting and mysterious. Drew is not realistic. You will find mysterious things happening throughout this book. At times it will make you shiver. If you like mystery and ghost books, you will like this book. I would give Time For Andrew a 1 with1 being the best.

This is the best book I've read since Harry Potter

In fact I don't no which is better! I'm Ten and I loved this book. Time for Andrew is a story about two kids that are related, both named Andrew and are identical but from 2 totally different time zones. One is from 1910 and the other is from 1990 and they have the exact opposite personalities. One is rough and doesn't get picked on but the other is weak and can't defend himself. When they first meet the Andrew from 1910 is almost dead with Diptheria. The two Andrews switch places in time. Well what the Andrew from 1990 found out is that once the Andrew from 1910 is healed he doesn't want to switch back. To be able to go back to his regular time period he has to play ringer a game he doesn't know how to play and beat the other Andrew. The book is a good mystery and has lots of suspense.

TIME FOR A GOOD STORY!

I loved this book it kept me reading and reading! but when Drew's parents go to "dig" in France Drew is suppose to stay with his very nice and understanding Great Aunt Blythe. But when Great Aunt Blythe brings Drew up in the attic Drew stepped on a loose board and found marbles that they could sell and fix the house up but then Drew finds a note that says:"WARNING THEESE MARBLES BELONG TO ANDREW JOSEPH TYLER IF YOU TAKE THEM YOU WILL BE SORRY. 7 JUNE 1910." But Aunt Blythe takes them anyway and in the night a boy comes into Drews room he is identicle to Drew but has Diptheria. The boys decide to switch places but when they do they seem to forget things from there own times. But Drew falls in love with Andrews sister Hannah. A tomboy that only acts like a lady when Jhon Larkin is around. Drew also adores Andrews brother Theo. Theo is a troublemaker that likes when Andrew gets in trouble with him. Drew also loves Andrews parents and finds himself calling them Mama and Papa. But Andrew did not tell Drew one thing Papa whips the kids with a belt instead of talking about it like his real Dad would when they get in trouble. Then Andrew and Drew make an agreement when Drew wins a game of marbles they will switch back to there own times. Andrews cousin Edward is a real idiot and at the end of the story Drew gives Edward a punch in the nose but does ot know who hit Edward him or Andrew.
