Caroline Canfield Mysteries Highly Recommended

"Tiger's Palette" is a wonderful mystery, with lots of humor and suspense. It is very hard to put down. I highly recommend this book! I look forward to reading the future books in this series.

An excellent mystery that's hard to put down

This is an excellent mystery novel. It's full of unexpected twists and turns, and leaves you guessing up until the end. Caroline's sense of humor and tendency to be accident prone make her character seem all the more real. Once you start reading the book, it's almost impossible to put down.

Best First Novel I have read in a long time

Tiger's Palette is the first mystery novel for J. Fiedler. It was one of the best first novels I have read in a long time. The main character is a wildlife artist who ends up trying to find out if her mentor (a mural painter) was actually murdered or not. One of the best reasons to read this book is the main character. She comes across as "real" person. In some mystery novels, the protagonist comes off as some I would not like to know and someone I dont really care about. The author does a good job at making me care about the characters and I did not want to put the book down.

A very good tale, that reads as well the second time too!

This is a fine mystery with suspense, humor, and a look at the darker side of zoos and wild life management. The deceased , a mural artist with a sense of fair play and humor would have fit in "The Monkey Wrench Gang" very well.So would the heroine, talented and smart wildlife artist Caroline Canfield! Her humor alone would make her a member! I don't mean to imply that Tiger's Palette is like Abby's books, it's not, but it does have the same wonderful whit and off beat characters like Abby's works. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good yarn with plenty of suspense and action! It was as good the second time around; a true test of a mystery book in my opinion!

Terrific new mystery series

Caroline Carfield is a wildlife artist who has studied under the direction of onee of the most famous landscape muralists in the world, Anthony Chicano. They parted company when Caroline realized her fear of heights prevented her from doing murals, but she never lost her fondness for her mentor. When he dies from an accidental fall, she learns she is the heir to his $3 million with the stipulation that she return to painting murals. She is going to reject the money until the zoo keeper asks her to finish Tony's last project. She looks at the unfinished mural and notices something is wrong about the tiger Tony was painting. Knowing that her former teacher used art to transmit subliminal messages, she wonders if he was murdered to stop him from doing this. Even though it might mean placing her own life in jeopardy, Caroline decides to decipher Tony's message in order to convey it to the world. TIGER'S PALETTE is the debut novel by a talented writer, who scribes an enthralling who-done-it with a biting social commentary on wildlife preservation. Jacqueline Fielder does not provide pat answers, but brilliantly describes the problems confronting society. Caroline is an endearing klutz, whose clumsiness provides comic relief from the tense-filled drama. Hopefully, Caroline will appear in future mysteries. Harriet Klausner
