What a wonderful story, I couldn't wait for the second book to be available and I am looking forward to the third. This is the second of a historical trilogy about several generations of a family of French Candians living in Massachusetts. The rich characters in this story are reminiscent of my own family members bringing empanthy in trials and tribulations of family drama.

This second in the trilogy by Appell is an excellent read. The writing is brisk in its depiction of a French-Canadian family in Massachusettes during the War years 1939-1945, focusing on the changes wrought by the War on the family members who remained at home. The characters are endearing and well-developed and their experiences are those most of us remember, through parents/grandparents and their stories. Consequently, we revisit our own memories. We appreciate through this family the 'small', daily adjustments (e.g.women wearing slacks for work)that resulted in major cultural shifts for men, women, and families, which we take for granted today. We also are reminded of the horror and loss experienced during wartime...memories which are being relived in today's world.
