one problem?

This was a good tale. As best as i can tell,he is geographically correct, accurate on the dates, knows the equiptment used by the calvary and the various native tribes, and can even tell you some of the distinctions between them. He paints a vivid picture of the landscape, the forts, and all the various peoples of the time. the mule skinners, the fort indians versus the free indians, etc. I enjoyed the whole story until we get to where our main man meets one of the mountain men, who has been shot in the throat, and can not talk other than sign talking. Then he encounters him later with the tribe that he is married into, and our main man and him have extended conversations, but no mention anywhere about how he all of a sudden got his ability to speak back. Or that they are managing to do all of this personal conversating with only sign talk on the older mans part and our guy is speaking verbally. Maybe i missed it but it sure bugged me. The descriptions of the battles on the Rosebud and later on the Greasy grass are very well done and also well researched. the only other book that i have read that is as good or possibly a bit better trying to get the native side of the coin are Son of the Morning Star, and considering the size of that, this one is a better flowing story. I will be reading more. Song of Wovoka is next on my list.

A must read for a different view on Native American history!

Thunder in the Dawn shows history in a fictional sense from the American Indian point of view. It's defintely nice to see people writing on things from a different perspective
