Thumbprint Cookie Cookbook

Thumbprint cookies are little round cookies with a indentation on top that is filled with jam, chocolate or cream. These cookies are instantly recognizable and often appear around Christmas time or the holidays. The name comes from the way the cookies are prepared: you roll them into a ball, flatten them a bit, then press your thumb on the center to make a little hole that is then filled with something sweet. Thumbprint cookies are also known as hallongrotta, which means "raspberry cave" in Swedish. Often thumbprint cookies are rolled in nuts or powdered sugar to give them an additional layer of flavor and more of a visual presentation. Traditional hallongrotta are buttery cookies, but today new variations can include chocolate, lemon, pumpkin or gingerbread.
