Book Overview

" I love being on this bus with all these girls who play sports, even if Sally Fontineau, who wants to ruin my life, is half a bus in front of me. It's not like every girl is my best friend. It's just a thing I feel a part of. It makes everything different ." No one asks Ella how she feels about moving halfway across the country in the middle of her sophomore year. But she ends up in Texas anyway, without plans for the weekend or friends to guide...

Wholesome Fun Read

I liked this book because I like softball and enjoyed the emphasis on how being on the team helped 15-year-old Ella make friends and become more confident. Ella, moved to Dallas from Chicago late in the school year and made friends by joining the softball team in spite of not having played before. This is a wholesome book that deals with Ella's adjusting to a new school in a new town. It's a story about a nice teenager and how she deals with friendship, parents, learning a sport and romance. A great read for young readers that challenges them to put themselves "out there" and to see what happens. I recommend this to pre-teens, teens and anyone who enjoys reading about high school sports.

A rockin read

Throwing Like a Girl Do you feel like you have read every good book there is? Well look no further than Throwing Like a Girl by Weezie Kerr Macky. This realistic fiction will take the reader from being the new kid in school to being very popular. Fifteen year old Ella is less than thrilled when her parents announce that they are moving to Dallas, Texas. After losing the battle to stay in Chicago, she arrives at her new school Spring Valley Day School unaware of the challenges she will have to face. She is surprised to be asked to join the softball team. Her first year fly's by like the big hard softball flying into center field. One of my favorite parts in this book was when Ella was at the prom and got separated from her date and had to go home with the security guard. This book shows the humor, romance, joy, anger and true emotion a fantastic book needs! If you are looking for a great, quick, energetic read, then this is the book for you!
