this should be handed out in schools

I read this and found it the best advert ever for contraception. I think it is a completely accurate portrayal of how incredibly difficult it is to raise a family and I have no kids! The portrayal of childbirth in this novel is honest to the point of nausea, I love this book. I live in a dreadful housing area, it was the only point at which my boyfriend and I could get on the property ladder, it makes me bilious to see them all smoking outside my house when I have to work for a living. If I had read this in school then I hope that a lot of people would have chosen careers then children instead of having children as a career

Absolutely LOVED IT!!!

I was going to pick up another Scarpetta book when I was in the bookshop but there was something about the book that beckons. And when I flipped behind the cover, there was a picture of an absolutely gorgeous picture of Carmen Reid, the writer, with a short introduction to her. She's a first time writer but long-time journalist. She was pretty....so, I guess I really wanted to find out what this chic can actually come up with. I mean, I HOPED that she could write....being a first-time writer and all that. On the cover, it said `A novel about love, sex, business and babies'. For those of you who knows me know that the word `baby' and `babies' have a very special nook in my heart. So, I paid for it at the cash register and started reading the first chapter on my way out of the bookstore! The character The protagonist in this book is called Bella. She's a high-flying career woman whose job is to force her way into ailing corporations, take hold of their accounts, criticize the management, sack people, take a big chunk of their money and then run for her life! No, she's not a robber, but she's a management consultant . The similarity is uncanny. She's the kind of neurotic worker who would give anything just to keep her career. She was going to make partner in a very short time, lived in a world of free sex, free booze, free smoking where all corporate rats go to. Then she got married to man some 13 years older than her, Don. Don is absolutely adorable. If only he was real. But I don't think a man like him actually exists. She's meticulous and extremely adorable with so many faults that you can really relate to her! An absolute darling - not an angel, but she's a smoking darling. Carmen Reid has crafted her out in such a manner that she's not perfect, in fact, she's so `faulty' that she smoked all throughout her pregnancy, which makes us shake our heads at age and make clucking sounds but sympathize with the corporate mayhem creator. The best part There's just something about the way Carmen Reid writes that is totally so....normal. No flowery language and no bombastic words. Just the average English writer who writes in such a way that it's easy to understand. The best part in the story is, of course, when Bella decided to have a home birth without knowing the extent of pain that she would have to endure. She doesn't try to make `home birth' into a kind of fad that we have to go through if we don't want to. In fact, after enduring home birth, Bella decided that she wanted to be jabbed all over her body if they decide to have another baby. And another real part is where Bella and her husband, Don, had no sex for like ages and it gets to Don. She describes in detail how unappealing the protruding pregnant belly is to the pregnant mother and how in awe the men actually are of the sheer SIZE of that thing! Ha ha ha...... Suitable for Anyone but I have to admit that this book will probably hit a chord in you if you already have kids, have g

Loved it, loved it, loved it.........

I wish Carmen Reid had more books, I couldn't put this one down. In fact left a smile on my face the whole time I was reading it.
