Book Overview

Chaudhuri shares the wisdom of his life as a dispassionate scholar and political moralist on a prevalent issue of our time, the decline of western civilization. A highly readable and visionary meditation, this work is characterized by Chaudhuri's capacity for prescience, measured prose, and acerbic judgements on a great variety of twentieth-century issues in the western world.

Nirad ,thy pen has great art.

Nirad Chaudhri is one of the most distinguished authors of India. He is the author of the memorable books like `Continent of Circe `,'Thy hand great anarch' and 'The Autobiography of an unknown Indian'. His criticism is very vitriolic at times ,but those , for whom truth is not bitter,or those who have the taste of truth, his writings are enjoyable. `Three Horsemen of the New Apocalypse' is an eye opening essay on the decadence which is evident in every great modern civililization. Three horse men stands for the three great driving forces of the modern Age viz,Individualism, Nationalism and Democracy.Treatment of Democracy under decadance may surprise many and if it is then they should surely read `Three Horsemen of the New Apocalypse ' to expirience the beauty with which Nirad babu explains the decadance of Democracy. The following lines were my most memorable one's, "Abraham Lincoln said that you can fool fool one man all the times or all the men once,But probably he did'nt knew the power of Television which can fool all men all the times." (please excuse me for I am quoting this from my memory so the actual order of words in the book can be slightly different ) I think if Nirad would have been alive today he might have added Internet also along with the Television in the above lines. In the end I would like to recommend this book to every man who cares for the Humanity .
