This began as a TRUE STORY - until make-believe crept into this clean and wholesome romance....that never runs smooth:
* Chas was heartbroken when Gina left. Should he follow her back to Tuscany? Maybe he could find who his birth parents were into the bargain.
* Mason was shattered when Gina disappeared leaving him for no reason. Would he ever see her again?
* Susie follows Mason to wherever it takes her. Would they ever get back together?
Lovers of historical - in this case Italian - fiction, will relish this mystery romance - one with a mid-20th Century setting - but perfect for all contemporary women fiction readers looking for up-market literature that's still easy-to read and approachable. There are issues to debate, perfect for book-club fiction.
About the author and the appeal of women's historical fiction 'I wrote 'Those Italian Girls' as a tribute to my own self-discovery 'growing up', acknowledging the pains of first relationships as I stepped into an unknown world. The result is a somewhat cultural heritage fiction romance - if there is such a thing It was fun to write and - I hope - fun to read. As with all my novels, I take you to locations where you may wish to visit. Settings further afield always provide an escapism element - a prime reason for enjoying this particular 'sisters fiction' read. For readers, any 'warmth' (Ha ) between those Italian girls, and Chas, and Mason stops 'at the bedroom door; so, if you're expecting a predictable bodice-ripper, sorry to disappoint. As for my literary influences I would prefer to be compared with McMurtry or Salinger, writing as I do with a rye smile (sorry ); The Graduate is my most favourite movie of all time so that's already been done; Damon Runyan I consider a real ground-breaker when it comes to characterisation and the use of dialogue. As a teenager I read all that Steinbeck had committed to print.
Currently I look for the crime fiction of Carl Hiaasen and the romantic fiction maestro, Nicholas Sparks, but I have been known to pick up Colleen Hoover and Sally Rooney. (I do mean their books )
Meanwhile, I will continue to create my own style with a semi-biographical historical fiction blend of past personal experiences mixed with make-believe to - hopefully - ensure your reading experience is a memorable one.' - J S Morey
