Awesome Book! A beginners dream

This is an awesome book. Anyone can use it. These ladies prove that there is no such thing as a professional when it comes to wine. They explain, quite clearly, the beauties of wine, it history, the making and handling of it, it's serving and complimentary food. All anyone needs to know. If you stick to this you too can become the best of food/wine pairers without having to become a chef at a swanky, overpriced resturaunt that thinks it takes a $100 dollor bottle of wine to compliment your nut encrusted salmon or tart... I purchsed the book, 'what to drink with what you eat' and was left even more confused. This book, This Food, That Wine has cleared everything up in one reading. I am absolutely grateful to these ladies and everyone involved. If you can purchase this book, do so. Do not hesitate. If you have never owned a book like this and want to get into wines to serve with your dinners, this is the only book you should have. Anything else, especially the aforementioned book, will leave you devastatingly and unnecesarily, confused. No more internet searching, no more book buying, it is ALL here. Again, my compliments to the publishers, writers and anyone else who worked on this great production. I recommend this book in a heart beat.

A lot of useful information

This book is filled with interesting recipes. I purchased the book mainly for the descriptions of wines and food parings. For this purpose, it has been extremely useful. The book also includes a lot of information on wines that are not that well known - but worth trying. I've tried a number of the lesser known wines described in this book and have not been disappointed. It's good to have a very readable source on the complexities of the wine world.

fabulous recipes & wine pairings

fabulous recipes & wine pairings; love the way you can easily find a wine varietal & see which flavors are dominant in it and some suggested foods that would pair nicely with it

This book is worth twice its price.

I noticed that this cookbook is extremely cheap through other sellers, I have no idea why the price is so low for a new cookbook but I suggest to jump on it and buy several...for you, Christmas presents, housewarming gifts, etc. Because this book is just awesome. I mean awesome. I've been wine tasting for a while now and own dozens of wine tasting books, flavor profiles, cookbooks and wine pairings and I can say bar none this is one of the best. While the authors are lovely women the cover of the book should have showcased its true promise which was the food and wine. Showing clean, empty wine glasses leaves one wondering why? As though the wine was not worthy of staging...same idea goes with the food. The pictures in the book are OK, nothing noteworthy, but there are no staged pics of wine and food. Why not? Next time ladies, skip the Mad Dog Design Team because they have gone mad not showcasing you to your full potential. Now for the bones of the book. If I were writing a wine & food pairing book this is the book I would write. I made the Spring Salmon Salad on page 118 and paired with their suggested New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and it was wonderful. The vegetal notes that S.B. are known for where echoed in the salmon salad that contained peas and asparagus. The vinaigrette was just as good made of white wine vinegar and olive oil with diced cucumbers. I actually like this book a little better than Wine Food & Friends just because this is everyday meals paired with any price point of wines that you choose. Ms. MacNeil's book had particular wine pairing suggestions and their prices were at a much higher price point. Her book, it seems is designed for entertaining when you want to impress friends. This cookbook is when you already have friends and you don't need to impress them. This book also has desserts and I did the almond cake but I paired it with a Late Harvest Riesling, this book suggested an Asti which would have been equally delicious. This book is definitely a gift given with a bottle of wine. All the recipes were normal ingredients and easily found in most grocery stores. I also did the beef stew on page 248 and we had it with the suggested Merlot, which I also used in the stew. It was phenomenal. The book also does a great job of comparing wines, listing wine growing regions, describing fortified wines, etc. Overall a great purchase.
