Excellent read

I bought this book at a book fair. I've always been a big reader ever since I had learned to read. I was in junior high, around 1983. It had a profound impact on me, because I was starting to get sick at 16 when I was a freshman in high school. I actually still have the book, and read it from time to time. I'm 50 now, and it never get old.

I've always loved this book

This is the story of a girl who lives a nice life with her family but falls victim to Lupus. It's quite a sad story but has always reminded me of just how lucky a person is if they have good health. Good health is the only thing in life that you cannot buy, wish for, or gain if you don't have it. It's a great book for teenagers to read because I read this at age 13 and I've never for dozens of years since forgotten it. I re-orderd this recently because I nearly remembered every detail of this novel for 20+ years. It will have an impact.

Still strikes a cord!

I read this book when I was in 3rd grade approximately 30 years ago. My grandmother bought it for me because I wasn't much of a reader back then. Because of this book, I became an avid reader. I wish she was still around so that I could thank her. It's out of print but I managed to get a used copy through a used book store. When both of my daughters are of age, I will recommend to them that they give it a go. Just yesterday I read a few pages and I started vividly recalling parts of the book and how it made me cry even at the tender and innocent age of 8! This book will open a young person's eyes to how life is so precious and perhaps it will develop more empathetic feelings in our youth. I'm hoping that my daughters will develop the same appreciation I did. I highly recommend this book even if it is over 3 decades old. The lessons the author tries to instill are timeless and much needed in a society that is growing more ambivalent toward traditional values and decency!

GREAT BOOK FOR YOUNG AND OLD

I READ THIS BOOK IN ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH SCHOOL. I AM NOW 25 AND I STILL LOVE THIS BOOK. THE GIRL, WHO HAS LUPUS, IS SO REAL THAT YOU CAN JUST IMAGINE IF SHE WAS YOUR BEST FRIEND. THIRTEEN REALLY IS TOO YOUNG TO DIE AND THIS BOOK DOES A GREAT JOB OF GETTING THE DETAILS OF IT. I WILL RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO MY TWO DAUGHTERS WHEN THEY ARE THE APPROPRIATE AGE AND I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE ELSE ALSO.

Great book to read!!

I read this when I was in grade 5, and I remember looking for it to read again when I was going to turn thirteen. Over seven years later I still have not been able to find this since it is out of print. If someone on here reads this and has a copy, please email me at rfunston@angelfire.com! It was such a good book, about a young girl that is dying. I don't remember all the details, but I was impressed. Geared more for a younger audience.
