"A keep-you-engaged-to-the-very-last-page thriller" (USA TODAY) from New York Times bestselling author Greg Iles--an unforgettable plunge into a world of sex, violence, marital betrayal, medical malpractice, and Southern intrigue...all of which takes place in one furious, terrifying day. In the span of twenty-four hours, everything Laurel Shields believes about her life and her marriage to a prominent doctor will be shattered--if she survives a terrifying ordeal. The day begins with the jarring discovery that, soon after ending an affair, Laurel is pregnant. But when she returns home to find her husband ashen, unkempt, and on the brink of violence, a nightmare quickly unfolds. In the heart of an idyllic Mississippi town, behind the walls of her perfect house, Laurel is locked in a volatile standoff with a husband she barely recognizes. Confronted by evidence of her betrayal, she must tread a deadly path between truth and deception while a ring of armed police prepares a dangerous rescue. But Laurel's only hope lies with her former lover, a man whom fate has granted the power to save both Laurel and her children--if she can protect his identity long enough...

Since this was the eleventh book that I had read by Ikes, I was totally surprised at the beginning and thought, "Why am I reading this," since it was not similar to any of his previous books. Then as I kept reading I was drawn into the story, the same as many of his previous novels. Iles took an affair turned bad and a doctor defrauding the government and interwove them into a twisting tale of suspense with surprises at every turn, and all in one day. Wow, great writing Greg. I have to warn you that I am in the minority here. There are a lot of negative reviews saying that it was not like his other novels and that it reminded them of "Life Time" movies. If you want a book to take to bed and read before you go to sleep, DON'T TAKE THIS ONE!!! You can't put it down! I read the second half of the book in one night and wanted more!!! It is a true cliff hanger! Best novel I have read in some time!!
So, So Good

I've been surprised over the negative comments about THIRD DEGREE, mostly because I enjoyed it so much. As far as thrillers go, it's not amazingly original, but the writing is great and it moves along at a really good clip. This isn't about crazy terrorists, gun-toting assassins, or super spies. It's simply about a marriage that has fallen apart, a husband who has literally gone over the deep end, and a wife trying her best to both apologize for her betrayal and keep safe everyone she loves the most. I read THIRD DEGREE in a day, because I didn't want to put it down once I started. For me, a really enjoyable read!

I have read all of Gregs books. I think this one is one of his best. This novel had believable people and kept you wanting to kno wwhat was coming. I was actually listening to this on CD and sat in the parking lot for 45 min to finish a CD. It is that good. You will relate to at least one of the people in the book. All in all, GREAT BOOK!!!!
