"We must plan our path not just for this generation and the next but for seven generations to come."

The listings for this book are a little confusing. It was first published in 2000 as a hardcover and again in 2005 as a paperback. The confusing part being the published price. My copy is a HC,was published in 2000 and has a price of $20.00 0n the inside of the dj. As a longtime ,avid Birder,I have a library of about 1200 "Bird Books";and since I live in Toronto,I have all of Bateman's ,as he is so well known and liked here;even though he now lives in British Columbia. I have had the pleasure of meeting him at his book signings;where he has given an impashioned talk covering much of his thoughts in this mook. I even had the pleasure of doing some birding with him and others ,where he was an envited celebrity supporting an allual fundraising effort. In spite of his renowned success,he is a very down to earth person, very friendly and likeable.Locally,he has built up many friends in the birding community over the years and has stayed in touch with them and remains extremely generous and willing to support naturalist organizations in their projects and other ways. It would be hard to find anyone who commands more respect and admiration for his work, success and support. If you are one of the many who have admires his art, this book adds another dimension to what he thinks about in the world of of nature and our surrounding enviroment. You will see how he not only "talks the talk, but walks the walk" in trying to convince us that we are stewards of a wonderful planet and how important it is that we take responsibility for its protection;because if we don't;we can easily lead to its destruction. There are many people writing and preaching and even making great sacrifices to encourage enviromental protection;but you will be hard pressed to find anyone who brings the messege in a more convincing and honest manner. If you enjoy Bateman's Art; this book will go a long way in telling you what this great artist is really all about and what is important not only to him but to all of us.
