Hilarious

Max Childers taught the first college class I ever walked into: a freshman honors lit course at Winthrop University. I consider myself lucky for that. His views on life and penchant for stirring up the addled minds of middle-class South Carolina adolescents made us look at literature in a whole new way. (I remember him talking about writing this book during the class.) I read Things Undone when it came out in 1990, so the plot is a bit hazy to me now. What I do remember is that I laughed out loud the whole way through. My father--who is not from the US--thought it was one of the best American novels he'd ever read. It's a dark portrayal of life in the heart of the Carolinas from a man who knows the area. Things Undone is a scathingly (and embarrassingly) realistic tale of life in modern America. Do yourself a favor by reading it.
