The author writes in first person as a disillusioned man in his thirties who reacts to Watergate and the Nixon resignation by embracing his past and setting out to find the living cowboy actors he had loved so much as a youngster. Written in the early seventies, the author was able to track down then-living cowboy stars Gene Autry, Tim McCoy, Charles Starrett, and several others (all of whom have since passed away). Even if you don't care for the films he cherishes (I do), the author is so good at describing his passion, and his ultimate disillusionment with the real world, I can assume that any reader will be fascinated. The ending of this book is one of the most moving things I have ever read. I still have a well-used paperback, which I have had for nearly thirty years. Highly recommended
