With your head down, the two things you can do are "PLAY GOLF & PRAY." Some say that GOLF really evolved from the primitive expression of native tribes - - native to Scotland? Alas, that claim seems to be tongue-in-cheek. "They Call It Golf" is a delightful mini-book in which history is combined with brave advice - - some even from the Bible: Proverbs 23:23, and Plato: "For a man to conquer himself is the first and noblest of all victories." There are pictures to savor, diagrams to convey secrets for an improved 'swing' and I must also mention fashion. "In what sport are the surroundings more felicitous? It is difficult to believe that "golf was scarcely heard of outside Scotland until the last half of the 19th century. Now the American taxpayer might not believe how many golf courses are owned/maintained by the U.S. military. "The constant undying hope for improvement makes golf exquisitely worth playing" is a quote from Bernard Darwin. It certainly foretells the writing of Roland Merullo's 2005 novel "Golfing with God" (isbn: 1565125010) In Merullo's story a golf coach finds himself in Heaven assigned to help GOD improve His/Her game. Truly, the humor must also be exquisite in Paradise! From Babe Didrickson Zaharias (one of my heroines) comes the recommendation of PERSEVERANCE, with one sure benefit: "the sweeping away of mental cobwebs."
