These hands create. These hands can build. These hands can reach. Can stretch. Can teach. Begging to be read aloud, this engaging, poetic board book is a wonderful tribute to the grace and power of hands, and is the perfect fit for our littlest readers.
A surprisingly engaging book, These Hands, with its simple rhymes and collage illustrations, creates a feeling of wonder and joy by taking a sensitive look at some of the common things we can do with our hands. Written by Hope Lynne Price, the short verses lead us through the book in a lilting series of very short lines. In fact, in fewer than one hundred words, Price is able to give us a touching look at everyday life and a bit of hope for the future: "These hands can pray. Can clap. Can play. Can sow the seeds for a brighter day." Bryan Collier's bright, intricate collage illustrations seem to balance well with the simple text and emphasize the detailed world that surrounds us, but often goes unnoticed. This is a wonderful book for children in the toddler years, when life is an exploration to the world within their reach.

This book is wonderful for emerging readers & for those children just learning to appreciate symbols of inspiration & empowerment. Children all want to do for themselves & Hope Price's book lets all children know that they can do so many, wonderful & helpful things. The poetry is simple & easy for all to grasp. The illustrations are beautiful. I think that this "big little book" will spark the imagination of children & hopefully get them thinking about the many ways they can contribute to their family, friends & society. My kids loved it. We look forward to more stories from Hope.
