Great book

I used to teach 2 year olds and this book was one of their favorites. Yes 2 year olds! Even though some children were a bit frightened of it they still loved it and wanted us to read it again and again. We used the book to talk about real and pretend and dreams. It was especially helpful around Halloween when the kids saw scary "monsters" on porches and in yards. I love how the little girl gets herself prepared to face the "something"(down to the cute cowgirl outfit over her pj's). I also like that her parent's try to give a plausible explination of what may be in the attic rather then telling her she's wrong about hearing things. I love how brave the little girl is and how she faces her fears and stands up to the "something" ... although it looks too scared of her to be much of a threat. Great story.

great book

the whole fam loves mercer meyer and this is one of my 4yo daughter's favs. i love that he turns children's fears upside down.

Great book for toddlers just beginning to find their rooms "scary".

My 2.5-year old daughter just began to leave her room in the middle of the night to report to us that her room was "spooky". Her caregiver at daycare had this book in her personal collection and let my daughter borrow it for a little while. We read it and it's fellow books ("There's a Nightmare in my Closet", "There's an Alligator under my Bed") before bed, and eventually, my daughter didn't find her room scary anymore. She'd reference the child in the books being brave and confronting their nightmares. I enjoyed the books so much, I bought new copies of them for my daughter's caregiver, as her copies were 'well-loved'.

CHS Book Report

I like this book because it was read all the time when i was like 3 and 4 and still love it!

This is one of my favorites by Mercer Mayer.

I teach preschool aged children and we use this story when talking about fears. When I read it I start in a whispered tone, and when she sees the "something" in the atic I yell at the same time she does. The children jump a mile and laugh like mad. We then take a good look at the "something" and the girl. We all belive the "something" is more scard than the girl. I recomend this and any of Mayer's Little Critter books to any one with children.
