Excellent textbook for counseling students

The "Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy" textbook provides the student a complete set of information about different counseling theories, their psychologists, and a broad, and at the same time detailed explanation on how to apply them. Easy to read and understand psychology textbook about the different theories and practices in counseling. In addition it displays a combination of theories of personality and theories of counseling methods to use for training and preparation of future counselors. I recommend this book not only to students but to instructors to use when teaching these courses.

Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy

This book is everything you ever wanted to know about therapy from an expert. It covers various approaches in therapy without judgement. Every therapist should have a copy and every student should be using it as a textbook during their studies. It's easy reading and full of insight.

Outstanding Resource.

This book is an outstanding resource for seasoned therapists as well as those new to the work. One of the most unique parts of this book is the way it takes one case study and uses it to illustrate how each of the different perspectives would approach the same problem. This technique is far more effective than using different case studies to illustrate different techniques. The book also gives very detailed explanations of the perspectives, a little bio of the perspective founder, and also provides information on how to use the perspective in today's world. Another unique factor is that the book provides seperate sections within the chapters to explain the the role of the client and therapist. Of all the books I own this is the most comprehensive book that illustrates how each perspective contributes to each other, how they are similar, and how they are different, while demonstrating how a therapist can use each theory.

a good comprehensive survey of major counseling theories

Gerald Corey's presentation of the different counseling theorists provides a good comprehensive base for the counseling student and apprentice. The book is written in an "easy-to-read "style. Corey also includes good biographical information about the theorists he includes in the book. He highlights theorist from all three forces of psychology like Freud, Rogers, Perls, Glasser, Lazarus, and Bowen. Corey also presents real situations that apply to "real" counseling situations. In summary this book presents an eclectic approach to counseling that stimulated and motivates the reader to explore the theoretical approaches in a personal way
