Although many would agree that this first book in the series is the best, I doubt most would agree with the previous reviewers suggestion to stop here. Let's face it, most follow-up works (especially to a truly great book) are never going to measure up. However, that does not mean they are not worthy of reading. In fact, I would suggest that anyone who has enjoyed this first book in the series will absolutely enjoy reading about what comes afterward for Nils (aka The Yngling) and other characters/plotlines. Just don't expect that they are going to be 5 star books like this one and all will be well ;-)
Excellent, just remember to stop with this one

I first read the Yngling in it's serialized version in Analog back in the early 70s. I was blown away by the story and settings. I can still picture young Nils battling the Grendel like creature. It's just a shame that Mr. Dalmas had to try to cash in on this great character with the weak follow on works.
Fantastic - even for a Sci-fi hater!!!

This book is well written technically, and plot-wise, is perfect. I have never cared for Sci-fi, but this book trenscends categories. Fantastic read!
