a classic

This book is a classic (along with Volume One), and has been used by teachers and writers since the early '80's. Many books of writing exercises have been published, but none with such a well-thought-out strategy. Keep it near you and you'll never have to worry about writers block.

wonderful creative writing assignments for student writers

Ziegler's classroom becomes a writing workshop where students are given direction, but where individual growth and personal interests are encouraged. The Writing Workshop: Volume 1 backs up numerous practical suggestions for teaching creative writing with discussions of the writing process and theory. Volume 2 provides a big compendium of writing assignments, with examples by adults and students and practical advice on how to present each assignment. Alan Ziegler is currently the Director of the Writing Program at Columbia University's School of General Studies.
