A comprehensive and authoritative guide that will provide readers with the confidence to explore wine in depth for themselves. Country by country, and region by region, this encyclopedia journeys... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Encyclopedia is the right word for the title of this book, which delves into almost every aspect of wine. Walton first tells you about wine tasting, wine storage and how to find the right wine for your meal, then tells you about grape varieties and the areas of the world where wine is produced. This book is well illustrated, with pictures of the grape varieties themselves, different vineyards/countries and wine labels. I also like Walton's writing style: you can tell that he really knows wine and that it is a real passion for him. On occasion, he refers to the different grape varieties as though they are people! This is a terrifically comprehensive book, and if you already have a working knowledge of wine this book is a great addition. However, if you don't know anything about wine before buying this book, you might find yourself a bit intimidated/overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information.
comprehensive, well-written and entertaining
