Did they read the same book?

This book was great fun. [...] It seems that other pilots thought it was or should have been written for professional pilots. Didn't they read the subtitle: The True And Sometimes Hilarious Adventures Of A Lady Airline Captain? What did they expect? Also, since she names names, dates and places and includes numerous pictures, I have no reason to think that she is making any of this up. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a great story. The writing is informal and conversational and enjoyable from beginning to end.

Best, funniest, airline book out there!

I don't think I have laughed so much while reading a book in a very very long time. I LOVED this book so much that I have already ordered Meryl's newest book sight unseen. She writes with passion, compassion, and sometimes ascerbic wit. Her comments on the airline industry's reluctance to admit women pilots is both truthful and heartfelt. I applaud her for not holding back on her feelings on this issue.

The amusing and authentic story of a very determined person

I can recommend this book: it gives you a good view of the easy-going and sometimes crazy 60s and 70s in the airline world, told by a young woman who is absolutely determined to become a captain on a big jet plane - which she did. It's nicely written and fun too - I had it done in less than 2 days.

Incredible Journey

Read this book over the summer and have recommended it to both aviation enthusiasts and those who really don't care about flying. What a story Meryl tells--from when she was a young girl to her current job at a major US airline. I loved how when she was told "you'll never be a pilot here" it made her all the more determined. And those airlines who said that now have women pilots. In a mostly male field, it's great to hear a woman's story. And I'm glad to see more women pilots now--on several recent flights I saw women captains and co-pilots--COOL! Loved the book and looking forward to the sequel.

The BEST book!!!

As I am reading some of these reviews, I am trying to figure out what kind of person could possibly give this book 1 star. You'll notice most everyone gives either 5 stars or 1 star. That doesn't even make sense! I don't know if these are jealous authors, pilots or x-boyfriends trying to bring Ms. Getline's rating down or what. I LOVED this book. It was funny, shocking, inspiring, educational and just a blast to read. When you finish the book, you feel like you can go out and conquer any dream or ambition you have! I've recommended this book to a lot of people and everyone I know who has read it thought it was fabulous! One reviewer on here said he hated the book even the second time he read it. That strikes me as odd that you would read a book you disliked a second time. Deep down inside he LOVES this book too. Please read it and decide for yourself. I know you'll like it!!!
